Although I still enjoy books in the fantasy genre, I have expanded my interests and am willing to read books in different genres. Recently I have read more books about contemporary teenage life.
I'd have to say my favorite book is The Hunger Games. Predictable, yes, but that's because this book has so many good things going for it. It's by far the most exciting book I've ever read. The writing style is concise yet detailed, keeping the reader involved in the action while providing thorough access to the thoughts of the main character. Suzanne Collins' greatest achievement in this book, in my opinion, is her excellent development of the world and the characters in it. She created a future dystopian society that is totally original, and makes it believable by paying close attention to detail. In addition, she portrays a wide variety of characters that come alive through their believable and multi-dimensional personalities. The story includes conflicts that can be compared to real life issues, such as oppression and the abuse of power, leaving the reader with many things to think about. I don't think anyone could dislike this book.
